ENTRY 0002 · Vera Wang · 2000s · 2004

Provenance

Purchased new in 2004 and worn exactly once — a fortieth birthday dinner at the Plaza. Hung untouched for twenty years until the owner's estate was cleared, rescued from a donation bin the same afternoon, and consigned to the Vault in 2026, where it sold to a buyer who promised it a photographer.

The record

A bias-cut gown in ivory charmeuse has no place to hide — every line is the fabric being honest. Vera Wang cut this one with a low back and a whisper of train, and its first owner treated it like a museum piece: one night, then darkness for two decades. When it surfaced, it had never been photographed. The archive keeps that fact on record, because a dress that good deserves to have its silence broken deliberately — by someone who understands what they're holding.
