Terms of Service

The rules of the house — what we promise you, what you promise us, and how the marketplace works between buyers and sellers.

Last updated: August 14, 2026

Acceptance of these terms

By accessing or using Veil Vault — browsing the collection, creating an account, listing a piece, placing an order, or contacting us — you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree with any part of them, please don't use the site. These Terms may change from time to time; the section called "Changes to these terms" explains how that works.

The marketplace model

Veil Vault is a marketplace. We provide the place, the presentation, and the tools — but the pieces in the Vault are listed by their owners, not by us. Every sale is a contract between the buyer and the seller. Veil Vault reviews listings before they go live, records orders, and facilitates messages, but we are not a party to the sale contract between buyer and seller. Buyers and sellers are each responsible for their own transactions — payment, shipping, and any returns or refunds.
Put plainly: Veil Vault is the house where the exchange happens. The exchange itself is between you and the other member. We're honest about that because trust starts with clarity.

Eligibility & accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, list a piece, or place an order on Veil Vault. When you create an account, you agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current. You're responsible for keeping your password confidential and for everything done through your account — if you believe your account has been used without your permission, tell us right away. One person, one account: accounts created to evade a suspension, misrepresent identity, or inflate a seller's reputation are not allowed. We may suspend or terminate any account that violates these Terms.

Listings & prohibited items

The Vault holds genuine, pre-loved formalwear: wedding dresses, prom and pageant gowns, evening wear, suits, and accessories. When you list a piece, you promise it's yours to sell, that your description is honest, and that your photos show the actual item. Listings go live immediately; Veil Vault monitors the marketplace and removes listings that violate these standards, and acts on reports. We may also remove any listing — and take action against the account behind it — that doesn't meet the Vault's standards. The following are never allowed:
  • Counterfeits, replicas, unauthorized copies, or items misrepresented as authentic when they are not.
  • Stock photos, borrowed photos, or photos that don't show the actual piece being sold.
  • Misleading descriptions — inaccurate condition, measurements, designer, era, or provenance.
  • Items you don't own or aren't authorized to sell.
  • Anything illegal, or any listing whose purpose is fraud, deception, or moving a transaction off the marketplace to avoid its protections.
  • Listings for services, rentals, or items outside pre-loved formalwear and occasion accessories.

Your content & the license you grant us

You keep ownership of everything you contribute — your photos, your descriptions, the story behind your dress. By submitting content to Veil Vault (including listing photos, measurements, and stories, and your public profile), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, display, reproduce, distribute, and promote that content for the purpose of operating and marketing the marketplace — including showing your listing to buyers, featuring it in the Vault's editorial collections, and using it in Veil Vault's own promotion. You represent that you have the rights to grant this license, and that your content doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.

Orders & payment

When you place an order, Veil Vault records the order and notifies the seller. Today, Veil Vault does not process payments online — orders are recorded on the site, and payment is arranged directly between buyer and seller. When online payment processing is introduced, payments will be processed through a third-party payment provider, and Veil Vault's marketplace fee (currently 12% of the sale price) will be deducted from the sale before the seller's payout. Either way, Veil Vault does not hold funds in escrow and does not guarantee that any payment will be made, any item will be delivered, or any transaction will be completed as planned.
The honest state of play: orders are recorded, but money moves directly between buyer and seller. We will never claim to hold or protect funds we don't hold — and if that changes, these Terms will change with it, loudly.

Fees

Selling on Veil Vault is free to list. When a piece sells, Veil Vault earns a marketplace fee of 12% of the sale price — the seller keeps 88%. There is no listing fee, and shipping is priced separately and is not part of the fee. The fee is earned at the moment of sale. See our Fee Policy for the full picture.

Prohibited conduct

You agree not to misuse the site. In particular, you won't: attempt to defraud any user or Veil Vault; create false listings or fake reviews; harass, threaten, or stalk other users; scrape, crawl, or otherwise harvest content or user data; interfere with the site's operation; attempt to circumvent our fees; or collect other users' information without their consent.

Disputes between users

Because each sale is between buyer and seller, disputes — an item that never arrives, arrives damaged, or isn't as described; a return or refund request; a payment disagreement — are first between the two of you. Veil Vault will facilitate communication and will act on reports of listings that violate our standards (including removing them and taking action against accounts). But we are not obligated to mediate, arbitrate, or resolve user disputes, and we do not guarantee any outcome — including any refund. See our Returns & Refunds page for what to do if a transaction goes wrong.

Disclaimers & limitation of liability

The site and its features are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. Listings are created by users, so Veil Vault does not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or truthfulness of any listing, the quality or condition of any item, or that any item will be available or any transaction will succeed.
  • To the maximum extent permitted by law, Veil Vault is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the site.
  • To the maximum extent permitted by law, Veil Vault's total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the site is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid to Veil Vault in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) one hundred US dollars ($100).
  • Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability. Where that applies to you, those limitations do not apply to you.

Governing law

These Terms and your use of the site are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the site will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll post the revised version here with a new "Last updated" date, and for significant changes we'll take reasonable steps to let you know — such as a notice on the site. Your continued use of the Vault after a revised version takes effect means you accept it. If you don't accept the revised Terms, you should stop using the site.
