Fee Policy

One fee, stated once, stated plainly. This page is the whole story of what Veil Vault charges — nothing buried, nothing added later.

Last updated: August 18, 2026

One fee: 12% at the moment of sale

When a piece sells, Veil Vault earns 12% of the sale price. That's the entire fee — the seller keeps the remaining 88%. If your piece doesn't sell, you pay nothing at all.
On a $500 sale: Veil Vault's fee is $60 and the seller keeps $440. That's the whole math — 12% and 88%, always.

No listing fee, ever

Listing on Veil Vault is free. Photographing your piece, writing its story, adding measurements, and setting your price cost nothing up front — and your listing stays in the Vault for free. There is no listing fee, no monthly fee, and no fee to withdraw a listing. (The only optional add-on — Featured placement, described below — is charged only if the item sells.)

Shipping is separate — and not part of the fee

Shipping is priced separately from the item, so you always see exactly what you're paying for. The 12% fee applies to the item's sale price only — never to shipping. No inflated item prices hiding the cost of delivery, and no fee on the shipping charge.

Featured placement — optional, 5% only when it sells

Sellers may optionally promote a listing with Featured placement — no pressure, never pre-selected. A featured listing carries a Featured badge on its card, a boost in the default Vault and marketplace sort, and a place in the "Featured this week" rail on the Vault.
Featured placement costs 5% of the sale price on top of the standard 12% fee (17% total when used), charged only if the piece sells — nothing upfront, nothing on shipping, and nothing if the sale is refunded or cancelled. On a $500 sale with Featured placement: Veil Vault's fee is $85 and the seller keeps $415.

Who pays what

The fee comes out of the sale. The buyer pays the listed sale price (plus any shipping the seller charges separately); the seller receives the sale price minus the 12% marketplace fee. There are no buyer fees — browsing, messaging, favoriting, and buying carry no Veil Vault charge.

When the fee is taken

The fee is earned at the moment of sale — when an order is placed and recorded on the site. Payments run through Stripe Checkout: the buyer pays the item price plus shipping in one payment, the 12% fee is taken from the item price, and the seller's 88% is held until the return window closes (after the buyer confirms receipt, or 14 days after the order ships) — then it transfers to the seller.

What the fee covers

The fee keeps the Vault running. It covers the monitoring that keeps listings honest, the curation and presentation of the collection, secure order records, buyer–seller messaging, favorites and saved searches, and the team that answers your emails and acts on reports.

Changes to this policy

We may change this fee policy from time to time. Changes take effect when the updated policy is posted here with a new "Last updated" date; for significant changes, we'll take reasonable steps to let you know, such as a notice on the site. A fee change never applies retroactively to sales already completed — the rate on the day your piece sells is the rate that applies. Your continued use of the Vault after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
